The Weed and Seed Strategy
The primary purpose of this Weed & Seed strategy is to eradicate violent and
drug related crime in order to provide a safe environment, free of crime and
drugs in which residents can and will choose to reside, work, and raise their
families.
The Weed and Seed strategy is a two-pronged approach to crime control and
prevention:
- "Weeding out" criminals from the community
- "Seeding" the community with prevention, intervention,
and neighborhood revitalization services.
The strategy is based on collaboration, coordination, community participation
and leveraging resources. It puts heavy emphasis on community
participation by actively engaging residents in problem solving in their
community.
The strategy is a multi-level strategic plan that includes these basic
components:
- Law Enforcement/Community Policing
- Substance Abuse Prevention, Intervention and Treatment
- Neighborhood Restoration
